 Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) Training

Learn at ABA Workshops

I can offer a number of workshops or training for those looking to learn new methods of changing behaviour through ABA. There are a range of courses available for beginners to the more experienced practitioners of ABA. Attendees may be supported living organisations or family run home based programmes, so there is no typical workshop. The best way forward is to get in touch and discuss your needs and I can create a bespoke package for your needs.

Makaton Workshops

Learn to Improve Communication

Makaton is a language similar to British Sign Language, intended for those who can hear but have difficulty in communicating. The language uses spoken English to encourage speakers to talk, and the ultimate aim of the language is to improve communication between all parties, whether that be using Makaton as an addition or as an alternative. I offer a number of workshops for beginners to experts, please get in touch for more information about Makaton training, consultancy and executive function coaching in Wirral and the UK.

1. Beginner's Workshop

The Beginner's Workshop provides accredited training over 2 days (or 4 X 2 hour 45 min sessions) for parents and carers who need to use Makaton within the home or work setting. In addition, the Beginner's Workshop is the first step in becoming a Local Tutor with The Makaton Charity.

For more information about becoming a Local Tutor please visit www.makaton.org or call The Makaton Charity on 01276 606 760.

Within the Beginner's Workshop participants will learn the Signs and Symbols from Stages 1-4 and Additional. In addition, participants will be instructed as to the methods of introducing signs and symbols to those that require such input.

Those people interested in attending workshops who are unemployed, retired or disabled are automatically eligible to receive a reduced fee.

2. Follow-Up Workshop

The Follow-Up Workshop builds upon the Beginner's Workshop and provides parents and carers with the opportunity to fine-tune their sign and symbol usage as well as learning the Signs and Symbols from Stages 5-8. Like the Beginner's Workshop this training is also accredited and runs over a period of 2 days (or 4 X 2 hour 45 min sessions).

The Follow-Up Workshop is also the second step in becoming a Local Tutor with The Makaton Charity.

In order to attend the Follow-Up workshop participants must have first attended the Beginner's Workshop.

3. Foundation Workshop

The Foundation Workshop is designed for professionals who need to use Makaton within their work or those that are seeking more in-depth Makaton training. The Foundation Workshop is held over 2 days (or 4 X 3 hour sessions).

The Foundation Workshop is the first step in becoming a Regional Tutor with The Makaton Charity. For more information about how to become a Regional Tutor please visit www.makaton.org or call 01276 606 760.

The Foundation Workshop provides a detailed introduction to the Makaton Vocabulary combining a practical approach with theory and technical information. During practical sessions participants will be taught Signs and Symbols from Stage 1-4 and Additional. Within the theory sessions participants will be taught about the research behind sign use, symbol design themes, the use and purpose of Makaton, and an overview of alternative systems of communication.

4. Enhancement Workshop

The Enhancement Workshop builds upon the Foundation Workshop and is recommended for professionals who require a more detailed knowledge and skill and for those who wish to develop the communication skills of others. The Enhancement Workshop is held over 3 days (or 6 X 3 hour modules).

The Enhancement Workshop is the second step in becoming a Regional Tutor with The Makaton Charity. For more information about how to become a Regional Tutor please visit www.makaton.org or call 01276 606 760.

The Enhancement Workshop concentrates on improving and developing participants' own signing skills and translation skills using signs and symbols. The signs and symbols from Stages 5-8 and Additional are taught in practical sessions while within the lecture sessions participants are provided with in-depth information regarding the particular needs of users, how to adapt communication to suit and how to identify and create opportunities through Makaton for the user to develop his or her communication skills and be better integrated into the community.

In order to attend the Enhancement Workshop participants must have first attended the Foundation Workshop.

5. Signing for Babies

Predominantly for parents and those working with or caring for very young children, Signing for Babies is a fun and easy way to learn how to begin signing with your baby.

Signing while speaking has been shown to encourage the development of language and communication skills. It can help reduce frustrations and help you to understand more clearly your baby's needs and wants.

Signing for Babies is held over 6 sessions. During the sessions you and your baby will learn approximately 100 signs and symbols which are taught in a fun and enjoyable way via songs, stories and play activities. Participants receive a pocket book of the signs and symbols taught as well as additional concepts that may be useful.
